March Report

Hello Ministry Friends,

Praises are in order for what God did on this March trip with 5 Americans and 5 Guyanese, ministering together as one family. We went to two remote river villages and had a fantastic time with the wonderful people and saw God's hand move in a powerful way. There were 120 SALVATIONS, two of them being people at a hotel where we stayed. That was a divine appointment.

The first village was Upper Pomeroon and that is where we slept on blow up mattresses on the floor of the church. During one of the nights, there was a loud animal altercation somewhere very near us. We came to know that it was between a dog and a wild cat that were fighting under the church which was on 5 foot pillars. Jai took a flashlight and a board to see what was going on. The wild cat was about 2 feet long and after the fight, was on the joist just under where Megan and Jeanne were sleeping so no wonder it was so loud. Jai poked the wild cat with the board and he ran off. We saw tracks the next morning in the sand to confirm that it was no house cat. HAHA!

The two mornings of teaching for the ladies and the two nights of Celebration services were excellent, drawing new believers to God and encouraging those who were already Christians. Megan's music was wonderful and the crowd loved singing along with the praise songs our Guyanese team led in. During Jeanne's last teaching session we had a powerful answer to prayer. The ladies had paddled on the river to get there and several had to bring their young children. Jeanne was about half way through her lesson on prayer and the power we have as Christians since we have authority over the devil and demons. One 2 year old boy started running around the church and disrupting to the point that it was hard for Jeanne to concentrate. We couldn't take him out because there is no yard around the church as the river at high tide covers the surrounding ground. Then a little 2 year old girl started screaming and wouldn't stop. The ladies were unable to even heard Jeanne so she stopped and asked everybody to pray, using the authority that we had been learning about. It was evident to her that there was a disturbing demon in that place so she confidently plead the blood of Jesus over the church and the children and demanded that the demon that wasn't welcome in that place leave and not come back. WITHIN 30 SECONDS, BOTH CHILDREN WERE FAST ASLEEP IN THEIR MOTHERS' ARMS. What a mighty God we serve.

Wesley Caldwell who is the manager of the Lifeway Store in Pineville was able to get all the books organized and ready to put on the shelves that the men on our team built right there in the church. They had unfinished wood that they planed, cut and then built the shelves. It will be a wonderful resource for the church members and the whole village.

Lifeway also donated stuffed animals for every girl in both villages and the boys received balls. Some said it was the first toy they had ever had. Upon checkout at the LIfeway store, customers had a chance to donate $5 for a toy for a child in Guyana and all those stuffed animals were sent to Guyana. Praise God for our new relationship with Lifeway.

We also left behind Kristi's Bible studies for those serious about growing deep in their faith and left Sunday school curriculum that was donated by Hopewell Baptist Church so the congregation will have great study materials.

We are so grateful for the wonderful trip and thank you for praying for us while we were gone. Please continue to pray for our Guyanese team and for all those who accepted Christ.

March Request

Dear Ministry Friends,

This Sunday, March 4, five of us will be going to Guyana to serve in two villages along with our Guyanese team. Wesley Caldwell who is the manager of the Lifeway Store here in Charlotte will go and help us set up two libraries. His desire is to help our ministry in any way possible. Jeanne McNichols will go to teach a women's Bible studies each morning, Megan Tuttle will do our music (and general craziness, haha). Steve and I will be there to do whatever needs to be done.

SUNDAY--We have a 6:00am flight so we will be at the airport VERY EARLY. We arrive in Guyana about 10:00pm. We will stay at a hotel a little less than an hour from the airport.

MONDAY--We will leave early to travel to our first village on the Pameroon River. Please pray for safety on the roads and river. When we arrive we will have our first event; Megan will sing, Jeanne will teach the women and the men will cook our lunch over a fire. When the children come home from school, we will play games with them and just make friends. After dinner, we will have our first CELEBRATION SERVICE. Please pray for the women's Bible study and for the Celebration that God will draw people to Himself either for salvation or for growth. After the counseling is complete following the Celebration, we will sleep on blow up mattresses on the floor of the church where we will be for two night.

TUESDAY--Jeanne will get to start her teaching earlier since we will already by in the village. The men will start constructing the library shelves. After the Bible study, we will set up the library, give out reading glasses to whoever needs them and rest a little after lunch. Then we will have another playtime when the children get out of school and have another CELEBRATION SERVICE.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY--We will travel to our second village and do the same schedule as at the first village. The only difference is that this village is a 15 minute boat ride away from a town so we will stay in a hotel to sleep. We will be in the village both days all day, however. We will leave sermons for the villages to use in worship services using their generator as well as the Christian libraries.

FRIDAY--We will travel back on the river and roads to Georgetown, do a little souvenir shopping, see a few sights and have a nice lunch. Steve and Jai and I are hoping to be able to have a meeting with a relatively large church in Georgetown to see how we might partner. Please pray that this meeting will happen. We will try to have an early night of it since we will have to get up at 3:00am to make it to the airport for our 5:35am flight.

Another update for you...I told you that Jai and Dave and Wayne are now able to go to the prisons (one male and one female)  close to where they live every other Tuesday. Since we will be on the above trip on the assigned Tuesday, they went yesterday instead. There were 6 women and 3 men who trusted Christ yesterday. Jai said there were lots of smiles and tears. The great thing is that we know all these new converts will be discipled as our team gets to go bi-monthly. Praise God for this new opportunity.

Blessings to you all,

Beth

July Trip Report--2 week mission

Dear Ministry Friends,

How blessed we were to see God work in such a powerful way on this trip. Thank you for your faithful prayers. As you may remember, we were supposed to spend 4 days in Camp Street Prison during our two weeks. Exactly one week before our trip, that prison burned to the ground. There are several miracles surrounding this event. The first it that not one inmate was hurt in the fire. Six guards were injured by prisoners attempting to escape and one of the guards died in the hospital due to a gunshot wound. The fire was started by six inmates who had an escape plan.

The next miracle is that Jai and his team were able to reschedule 4 days of ministry and we were blessed by each place and saw why God had us there. We were also able to bless the prison where most of the men from Camp Street were re-housed. International Celebration donated over 1200 pair of shoes, 1200 toothbrushes and tubes of tooth paste, and a truck load of toilet paper. We love these prisoners and wanted to help them. The inmates lost everything!

You prayed for Yvonne whose mother was at the point of death as she stepped on the plane. Thank you, God, that she didn’t die while Yvonne was in Guyana. Another blessing.

During the two weeks, we washed the feet of 1,260 children. There were 394 SALVATIONS!!!!

These were mostly children that we talked to one on one as we washed their feet. There were 40 adult salvations during two evening Celebration Services. There were also 3 members of the staff at our hotel who accepted Christ as team members shared with them and one hotel guest who received Christ. What a blessing to see people in all different settings ready to hear the Gospel and accept Jesus.

We were encouraged at Friendship Community Church as we found out that the leaders there are already connected to Child Evangelism and the children who received Christ with us will have an opportunity to do follow up Bible study through Child Evangelism.

Now I will tell you about two of the places that we ministered as a result of the prison burning. We had never heard of Mahaica Girls’ Home but God brought it Jai’s attention as he and his team prayed about what we were to do the four days that were now available. This home houses girls that have been taken from their homes because of abuse or abandonment and there were about 80 girls. We had a time of music, fun songs, and a sermon by our new staff member, Dave. There was one girl in particular that had a very downcast face and literally blank eyes. Megan tried to engage her with a fun ukulele song that stops and asks girls their names. She wouldn’t even speak her name.  Before we left, we saw this young girl go from what I have just described to a joyful teenager, smiling, singing, dancing and jumping around. What made the difference? She finally opened up a little during the one on one foot washing, asked Jesus to be the Lord of her life and then spent a lot of fun time with the team, talking and singing and joking. We will never forget that glorious transformation!

The second event that happened at Mahaica where we weren’t scheduled to go had to do with a 14 year old named Kelly Ann. She asked one of our Guyanese team members to pray for her because she was having terrible nightmares every night and waking to the idea that she needed to commit suicide. As our team member prayed, Kelly Ann started to shake. While Kelly Ann sat across from a team member to have her feet washed, the story of the nightmares and suicidal thoughts came up again. Two team members were dealing with her and praying when it was evident that something troubling was going on. Jai was summoned and as he talked to her, he was able to identify that she was possessed by a demon. He has had a lot of experience with demon possession as it is prevalent in many places he goes. Jai, Dave and two ladies from our team took Kelly Ann into the first aid room where there was a small bed and for an hour, pled the blood of Jesus over Kelly Ann and did spiritual battle with that demon that finally left. We knew the work was done when Kelly Ann was able to repeat the phrase JESUS IS LORD without having another manifestation start up.

This is the first time we have encountered a demon on one of our summer trips. God had jobs for each team member during this important time. Four dealt with Kelly Ann, several covered them in prayer and the rest of the team played and sang with the girls so they wouldn’t be trying to come look in the window of the room and see what was going on. There was a lot of important bonding that took place there with the team and the girls that solidified our love and care for them.

Please pray for Kelly Ann, for her salvation and for protection for her. Jai and Dave each separately felt like God was calling them to go back to Mahaica Girl’s Home regularly, hopefully every Sunday to do Bible study and mentoring with these girls. Since there will be Sundays that they are on village trips, those weeks, they would go a different day. Jai and Dave would love to make that commitment even though they don’t live near there. The Sophia Children’s Home is near Mahaica and they will go there every Sunday as well. That will be about 180 children that they would impact each week.

Tomorrow, Jai and Dave are going to Georgetown to seek permission to go into these government run homes. Please pray that they will find favor and will be granted permission. Also, it will cost about $300 dollars for them to go four times a month for this ministry opportunity. The gas is expensive and there are bridge fees as well.  This is not in our budget so would you please consider whether God is leading you to make a monthly donation to help with this need? If so, please make your check out to International Celebration Assn. and mail to Beth Puckett, 8333 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28277.

The other ministry event we had because of having to cancel the prison ministry was to go back to the juvenile detention center, NOC (New Opportunity Corps) for a second visit. The first week, we had an evangelistic service and decided to go back the second week for follow up and fun through games. It is encouraging for these teens to see that we care enough to come back. Dave preached a challenging sermon about teen issues and then we played games. Megan has worked with youth for years and was a Godsend as a team member. She took charge of this event. She had the most fun games for them to play as three teams competed. The only thing that was more fun than seeing the youth was seeing how much fun the staff of the NOC had. They were cheering and jumping and dancing around like crazy. What a blessed afternoon.

Jai and Dave would also like to go back to the NOC often to continue mentoring and challenging these teens. Some have accepted Christ and others have had seeds planted. We would love to have an ongoing presence there.  Jai and Dave would love to go back there twice a month. The cost would be $300 per month. It would have been more but Jai and Dave would be willing to take the ferry rather than the more expensive speedboat. They would leave about 1:00 AM to get in line for the 5AM ferry. They would go to the NOC and minister to the juvenile delinquents and then catch the 4:00PM ferry back and get home about 9:00PM. Please pray that as they go to Georgetown tomorrow, the government will give them permission to do this. If it is approved, we would also need help with this expense. If your heart is touched by these youth needing ongoing teaching and encouragement, please consider giving a monthly check to pay for this part of the ministry. Again, if you feel led, make your check out to International Celebration Assn. and mail to Beth Puckett, 8333 Providence Rd. Charlotte, NC 28277. It would be such a blessing.

Each team members experienced special moments that will be memories forever and people who are impressed on our hearts. We all pray that God will continue to make himself known in Guyana. May this country of less than 800,000 continue to be flooded with the Gospel of Christ and may the Great Commission be reached, that every Guyanese hear the truth of how he or she can have a personal, life changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Thank you so much for praying for our trip and please continue to pray for our Guyanese team as they monthly take the good news to the remote villages all over this country.

Prayer Itinerary for Big July Trip

2017 Guyana Trip Itinerary

Our team verse for this year is, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1a-b. Please pray that on this trip, we will reach many more people to become children of God and that they, too, may experience how God lavishes His love on us. Notice the exclamation points in this verse. I haven’t noticed many of those in Scripture.

Pray for the weather. Guyana is usually in the dry season this time of year but it has been raining (even flooding) for several weeks and the forecast is for more rain even through August. We will still be able to do our ministry because most in under cover but please pray that the rain won’t keep people away.

SUNDAY- July 16—Team #1 arrives in Georgetown just before 10:00 PM. Please pray for ease of travel and for the families we are leaving at home. Yvonne’s mother is at the point of death and Yvonne is trusting God with the timing of her mom’s home-going. Yvonne is confident that God has called her to go on this trip and that He is in control of the timing of things. We will stay at the Aracari Resort (cough cough) where we have stayed a number of times. The rooms are air conditioned so after working in the hot, humid weather each day, it will be a relief. This will be home base both weeks.

MONDAY- July 17—After getting in very late last night, this morning, we will have team time and get to know our Guyanese team members. We will make salvation bracelets to prepare for the week where we use them everyday with the children and prisoners.

The colors on the bracelet stand for the steps to salvation:

---Black bead—Sin that separated us from God and we can’t get rid of it on our own

---Red bead—Jesus’ blood that he shed to cover our sin if we accept His free gift of salvation

---White bead—A clean heart. This is what God sees when he looks at us after we are forgiven.

---Yellow bead—Symbolizes the streets of gold where we will spend eternity since we have been forgiven.

---Green bead—Stands for growth-We need to grow as a Christian by prayer, Bible study, involvement in a church and time with Christian friends, etc.

After lunch, we will go to Friendship Community Children’s Ministry. There will be about 200 children that we will serve. They will be greeted with friendly smiles, hugs and a salvation bracelet tied onto their arms so they can reference it throughout the day. We will have fun songs and worship songs. Our Guyanese team member, Dave, and one of our team members will take the teens to a different location and teach them while Beth teaches the children a Bible story. In each group, we will go over the plan of salvation and the new life they can have in Christ.

As we wash the children’s and teen’s feet, we can point to the bracelets that they were given and go back over the plan of salvation. We do not try to force anyone to accept Christ because we know that is the work of the Holy Spirit. We just want to make sure they understand and have the opportunity if God is drawing them. We pray with the children and love on them. They will be given new shoes. Please pray for the children to go home feeling loved and that many will accept Jesus as their Savior. Many times parents come to bring their children and end up understanding the Gospel for the first time. We have had parents saved on numerous occasions.

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY- July 18 & 19—Today we will start our first two days at the Campstreet Prison. This is by far the largest of the 7 prisons in Guyana. It will take us four days to see everyone two days this week and two days next week.  We will have worship songs, testimonies, solos (some from the prisoners) and then Jai will preach an evangelistic message, clearly explaining that even though these men are behind bars, they can be free. If they accept Christ, they can be free from the guilt of sin and be seen as cleansed by their Heavenly Father as they start a new life in Christ. Next, the men are brought in groups to have their feet measured and to be given a pair shoes. Our team will sit with a basin at our feet and a chair across from us. The prisoners will be directed to a chair and we will wash their feet and talk to them about what they heard. If they accepted Christ with Jai in the service, we will affirm what they did and if they have questions, we will talk to them and pray with them. Those who accept Jesus as Savior will be listed so they can have follow up. All will be given a toothbrush and toothpaste and a Bible if they don’t have one. Those who are serious about growing and are willing to commit to doing a Bible study will be signed up for a class and learn from Kristi Buttles’ Bible study. This is going to be a huge help to the men who need a solid foundation for their new faith. Please pray that their growth will be huge because of Kristi’s faithfulness in writing this Bible study.

Those who would like to be baptized will have a chance at the end of the foot washing. We will make it clear to them that baptism doesn’t save them but that it is a public display of their faith and a symbol of their death to their old life and the beginning of a new life. Please pray for open hears and that the Holy Spirit will make the message of salvation very clear to them.

In the afternoon and evening, we will have team time, make bracelets and play games.

THURSDAY—July 20--Today we will get on a boat and travel to the NOC (New Opportunity Corps). It is the juvenile detention center for offenders 12-17 years old. We have served here a number of years and have had wonderful times. There will be new teens there as well as ones who will remember us. We will have worship songs and a message. We will spend one on one time with them as we wash their feet and talk to them. We will pray with them, make them feel special and give them new shoes. Pray that many will accept Christ and that those who made a decision in previous years will be encouraged to learn more and grow in their faith. We want them to know that no matter what they have done, they can be forgiven and have a positive life in Christ.

FRIDAY-July 21—Today we will go to Kuru Kuru Squatting Area with about 120 children. This is where poor people don’t own land but just squat and build a little shack. There is no electricity or running water. We will have a children’s shoe distribution service like the one describes on the 17th. Please pray that we will make each child feel very special and clearly explain to them and the adults around how they can have a personal relationship with Jesus. If the weather allows, we will have an evening service.

SATURDAY-July 22--Today we will spend the morning touring Georgetown. We will visit the largest wooden church in the world and see the sea wall that was build by the Dutch.  Georgetown is below sea level so it has to have a sea wall. We will shop for souvenirs and then have our last lunch together at our favorite Chinese restaurant. There we will have a special team time where everyone will tell his/her favorite story from the week of what took place. This is always a very special time. We will have fun in the afternoon at the hotel, swimming and playing games and go to bed very early as the Sunday flight is at 5:35 AM so wake up time is about 2:00 AM.

Also,Saturday night, our team member, Chris, who has been with us the last two years will be flying in from London where he was transferred after the trip last year. Praise God he is so committed to Guyana that he is coming across the pond for week #2.

SUNDAY—July 23—Goodbye to team #1 and tonight team #2 will be flying in. During the day, we will have a worship service with Chris, our Guyanese team and 3 of us who are staying for 2 weeks. We will also make more bracelets to use this week.

At around 10:00 PM, 7 more team members will arrive. One of them, Chuck, will just stay until Wednesday. He is our videographer who will redo our ministry video for our website. Our last video was years ago and needs updating. We are thrilled to have him with us. We will settle into the “RESORT” and be ready for tomorrow.

MONDAY—July 24—Since the team got in so late last night, we will have a late breakfast and team time for the second week team to get to know our Guyanese team and make bracelets. After lunch, we will do a children’s ministry at a squatter camp called Parfith Harmony. We will have about 150 children and will do the same type ministry that was explained on Monday, the 17th. The Buttles will work with the teens. Chuck will be able to get some great footage of the interaction with the children so you will later see it on our video on the website.

This evening, if the rain will cooperate, we will have an evening service at one of the Amerindian villages that is not far from town called Swan. Please pray this will be possible.

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY—July 25 & 26—Today we will go back to Campstreet Prison. We will do the same ministry we did on the 18th and 19th. Kristi will give her powerful testimony and we will have a wonderful time of worship and intimate time of washing feet and one on one conversation. Please pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to be moving through the prison. Another prayer for today is that the prison will allow Chuck to film in the prison. We have never been able to do that before but we have established such a good relationship over the years, we think it is a possibility. He would just film in the service from the back of the room so you would not see the prisoner’s faces but would be able to see the powerful worship time. We may also be able to have Chuck film the foot washing with the prisoner’s backs to the camera and the team’s faces. If neither of these end up being possible, Chuck will film us going in and coming out of the prison and Jai is confident that the warden would love to be interviewed by Chuck to give a report of how our ministry has improved the atmosphere in the prisons. Praise.

On Wednesday morning in the wee hours, Chuck will fly home. Please pray for a good travel day for him and pray for the new ministry video he will produce for us.

THURSDAY—July 27—Today, we will do a children’s event at Swan housing. There will be about 300 children. There is something extra special about this location. This is where Isaiah Crawford is from. He is the precious Amerindian boy who was adopted by Jenn and Ben Crawford in Charlotte. Many of you prayed for every detail of that private adoption. He is now a Crawford through and through. They will always teach him a love of Guyana.

FRIDAY—July 28—Today we will do a children’s event at Yarakabra Village. This is another Amerindian village with about 130 precious children. One thing we make sure while ministering to these children is that we as a team see them as individuals, each important in God’s sight and not just a large group of children. We know how special they each are to God and we will love them and show kindness to each one.

SATURDAY—July 29—Just like last week, we will spend the morning touring Georgetown. We will visit the largest wooden church in the world and see the sea wall that was build by the Dutch.  Georgetown is below sea level so it has a sea wall. We will shop for souvenirs and then have our last lunch together at our favorite Chinese restaurant. There we will have a special team time where everyone will tell his/her favorite story from the week of what took place. This is always a very special time.

We will have fun in the afternoon at the hotel, swimming and playing games. We will go to bed very early as the Sunday flight is at 5:35 AM so wake up time is about 2:00 AM. The hotel is about an hour from the airport and we have to arrive 2 hours early.

SUNDAY—July 30—Please pray for safe travels today and good travel logistics, no delayed flights. We will look forward to sharing about our trip when we get home.

Thank each of you for praying for us. Your role as prayer warrior is just as important in the Kingdom as the work of those of us who go. That is how the Body of Christ works. Hallelujah!!!!!
